      GRAND KNIGHT'S MESSAGE

Brother Knights,

Greetings and Happy New Year!  We are completing our second quarter of the fraternal year, and what a quarter it has been.  I realize it has been a while since my last message, but as a Council we have been extremely busy and have accomplished much.  Yes it has been three months since my last message, so let’s review what we have accomplished and then focus on what is coming up in the next few months.

October has come and gone and was the beginning of a very busy season.  John Ste. Marie started the month with our annual Oktoberfest celebration fundraiser, and from there we went right into our All Saints Party hosted by Mike and Judy Annis.  All the youth of the parish were invited to come dressed as their favorite Saint, share their Saint’s story, and play games and have snacks.

In November we all enjoyed the season of thanks by delivering our Thanksgiving Baskets to those in our community having the need.  All in all we delivered 15 baskets at Thanksgiving that consisted of all the food needed from breakfast to dessert after a Turkey feast.  There is a significant amount of time spent on this program.  Several brothers go to Hannaford on the day before delivery to pick up all the food for the baskets, then deliver it to the Church and prepare the baskets for delivery.  The cold items need to be placed in the refrigerator at church to keep them cold until delivery the next day, while all the non perishable food is separated into baskets for delivery.   Dave Hamilton does a great job coordinating the purchase with the grocery store and setting up the group to pick up and prepare the baskets.  Mike Annis takes it from there and schedules the deliveries by Brother Knights to those families less fortunate.  I am so thankful for this program and enjoy participating in it every year, and if you have ever been fortunate enough to deliver a basket, you certainly know we make a difference.

In December, we repeated the food Baskets for Christmas.  We increased the delivery to 18, and also we were able to include presents with the deliveries.  This too, is an incredible program, and one I am again fortunate enough to participate in.  We were also able to give support to 2 families in need this year in the way of gifts who might not have otherwise had anything under the tree had not all of you been as generous as you were.  I am certainly happy to see so many remembering the lesson of our first degree and giving so openly, Outstanding!!!    Along with this we managed to have an adult Christmas Party where we were able to all come together with our spouses and enjoy a Yankee swap that is always worth at least one laugh.  To top this off we had our Children’s Christmas party where we invited the children of the parish to meet Santa, play games, sing Christmas Carols, have all kinds of treats, and finally get a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and get their very own Christmas Present from him.

With all of this going on, we happened to find the time to decorate the Church with lights on the outside for the Christmas season.  Please keep in mind that this is our responsibility and that soon the lights will be coming back down so we will be looking for help on that.  And talking about help,  we have programs coming up that we will need help on.  In February we have a Blood Drive that is being co-chaired by Ron Metevier and Bob Faust and takes place on the 8th, and on the 27th of February we will be having our Senior Appreciation dinner that is Chaired by Mike Annis.  Both are two more great programs that can benefit from your help, so please reach out and contact the chair of the program and lend a hand.

March will be bringing Lent, and with that we will be very busy between John Ste. Marie’s fish fry, the Feast of St. Joseph’s breakfast, the Live Stations, and Palm Sunday breakfast, just to name a few.  So be watching out for where you can help and pitch in.

I am sure we will also be seeing our living Rosary again very soon and have had great attendance with the first two living Rosary devotions we have had.  If you have not yet seen this, please make it a priority as there can be great joy in praying our Rosary and this Rosary has been made with Love by several our Brother Knights.

I think I have rambled on enough but let me say in closing, get involved, stay involved and help out when you can and may you all be blessed in 2011.

Vivat Jesus!

Pete Hubby, GK 6850
