FEBRUARY  2008
 Grand Knight’s Message

Brothers,

On Sunday afternoon, January 20th, I traveled to Suncook to attend the State winter quarterly meeting. I had a chance to speak with our State Deputy, Greg Taillon.

I extended an invitation to him to attend one of our business meetings. I am happy to now welcome him to our next meeting on February 10th. Please plan on attending for the opportunity to meet Greg who is quite familiar with our Council’s good works.

More good news to come from the meeting is that the State’s plan for providing liability insurance to all councils at an affordable cost is about ready for launching. Based on a rate of $2.00 per member our invoice for $282.00 is a far cry from the $750.00 we recently paid for one year’s coverage. The new policy would provide us with coverage equal to our current one. Obviously, we can save a bundle of money, which can instead be used on charitable causes. Thank you to our State Advocate, Jordan Ulery for his many hours of hard work to bring about this new plan.

Unfortunately, due to the surprise snowstorm on Sunday morning, January 27th, our Free Throw contest ended up as a cancellation. I want to thank Pedro Santiago and his team for their hard work organizing and setting up this event.

Our council has agreed to put on “Fish Bakes” each Friday evening during Lent at 5:30 in the Church hall. “Stations of the Cross” will follow at 7:00PM with Father Mike. We are in need of help to set up, prepare and serve these dinners. Please contact myself 642-8970, John Ste Marie 895-0993 or Rick Cabral 679-1184 if you can help. I will be proposing at Sunday’s meeting that we donate the proceeds to Father Mike for the youth’s Steubenville program.

We also have our annual “winter fest” scheduled for Saturday February 16th from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. Father Mike is eagerly looking forward to this fun day of events. In addition to an abundance of snow for the sculpturing contests, we, of course, need help organizing and running the events. Please call the Chairman John Ste Marie 895-0993 to help out. Jim and Nancy Gray have volunteered again this year to cook the hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch. So please plan to make a day of it with your families.

Granite Award Dinner will take place on Saturday evening, the23rd in Nashua.

Also upcoming on Sunday afternoon, February 24th, one of my favorite programs, the Seniors Appreciation Dinner at 1:00PM.Call Mike Annis 895-4713 to volunteer for this one.

We need lots of helping hands to prepare and serve this big, delicious turkey dinner.

Later that evening, we will have a First Degree at 7:00PM. For the balance of this fraternal year, all First Degrees will be in honor of the Pope’s April visit to the U.S.

So, as you can see, there are plenty of “things to do”. Please get involved!

Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime.

Vivat Jesus,

Grand Knight Dave Biron

A LITTLE CATHOLIC HUMOR

Little known facts about the Catholic Church in Las Vegas: — There are more churches in Las Vegas then casinos. During Sunday services, at the offertory, some worshippers contribute casino chips as opposed to cash or checks. Some are sharing their winnings, some are hoping to win and some donate all they have left. Since they get chips from so many different casinos, and chips are worth money, the Catholic churches send all the chips into the diocese for sorting. Once sorted into the respective casino piles, one junior priest takes the chips and makes the rounds to the casinos turning chips into cash. And he is known as .........................The Chip Monk!

THE SERIOUS SIDE

God, heavenly Father, look upon me and hear my prayer during this holy Season of Lent.

By the good works You inspire, help me to discipline my body and to be renewed in spirit.

Without You I can do nothing. By Your Spirit help me to know what is right and to be eager in doing Your will. Teach me to find new life through penance. Keep me from sin, and help me live by Your commandment of love. God of love, bring me back to You. Send Your Spirit to make me strong in faith and active in good works. May my acts of penance bring me Your forgiveness, open my heart to Your love, and prepare me for the coming feast of the Resurrection of Jesus.

Lord, during this Lenten Season, nourish me with Your Word of life and make me one with You in love and prayer.

Fill my heart with Your love and keep me faithful to the Gospel of Christ. Give me the grace to rise above my human weakness. Give me new life by Your Sacraments, especially the Mass.

Father, our source of life, I reach out with joy to grasp Your hand; let me walk more readily in Your ways. Guide me in Your gentle mercy, for left to myself I cannot do

Your Will.

Father of love, source of all blessings, help me to pass from my old life of sin to the new life of grace. Prepare me for the glory of Your Kingdom. I ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever.

Amen.
