MARCH 2007

Grand Knight’s Message

Brothers,

I wish you all a warm welcome to the Lenten Season and hope you will avail yourselves to the many opportunities Father Mike is presenting to us to take a break from our busy lives and spend time with our most generous and loving God.

This last weekend of February was certainly enjoyable and productive at the same time.

It began on Friday evening with Adoration, our first Stations of the Cross and a delicious Baked Fish Supper, compliments of the Ste. Marie family. Boy, can they cook!! In case you missed it, there are three more planned for the Friday evenings of March 9th, 16th and 23rd.  And, if you wish to make a night of it, bring along your favorite card or board game and plan to have some fun.

On Sunday afternoon, it was Seniors’ Appreciation Dinner. A fantastic turkey dinner with all the fixings, along with an assortment of desserts was served in the Church Hall and enjoyed by approximately sixty of our more mature parishioners.  Thank you to all who worked so hard, I was truly proud to be a part of this rewarding annual event.

Then on Sunday evening, we held a First Degree ceremony, at which time we welcomed five new Brother Knights into our Council. This was our first ceremony held under the new format from Supreme and with our District Deputy, Ron Metevier witnessing, we also became re-certified, making us one of the first teams in the state to do so. I “Congratulate” our Council #6850 First Degree Team on their hard work and dedication making this possible, and for a job well done!!

Also during February, we held our third annual Winter-fest. Father Mike did his job well delivering the snow just three days before the start. The snow sculpturing competition was won by the Rhodes family with their incredible race car Lightning McQueen, followed by the Colfords’ Sacred Heart, the Parents’ Walrus and Mermaid display and the Rowers’ Yellow Dog. Thanks to Jim and Nancy Gray for cooking the hamburgers and hot dogs enjoyed by all at lunch time.

Also, on Monday, the 19th, a very successful Blood Drive was conducted. I believe 68 pints were donated.  Thank you to all who participated in spite of the bitter cold weather and to all who dedicated so much time to these events.

I want to apologize for postponing the Retreat we had scheduled for Saturday, the 17th. However, the bug put me under the weather and I was unable to prepare for it. I plan to hopefully re-schedule it for some time after Easter.

Just a “heads-up”, that during the third and fourth weekends of April, a cell phone recycling program is planned in the Narthex. This will be an opportunity for anyone with extra phones to donate them to a good cause. Mark Johnson and Jim Wooster are co-chairing.

Check the calendar, I believe our annual Spring Fling Dinner Social is coming up in March!!

Please keep in your Prayers: Clarence Desrosiers, Jim Gray who recently underwent a medical procedure for his heart, Leo Blouin who had a foot operation, along with Dave Hamilton’s sister-in-law who is ill with cancer.

Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime.

Vivat Jesus,

Grand Knight

Dave Biron

COUNCIL NEWS

The Council received its Per Capita Tax Assessment from Supreme and letters of thanks from Chris Martel and Leo Blouin.

Our Chaplain Fr Mike was glad to see new members interest into our Council and was looking forward to Winter-Fest Fun Day.  He talked about the new Dean that has been appointed by the Bishop and Chris Martel is residing in Merrimack with Fr Aggie for two weeks. As for our church, the Reconciliation Room is being looked at for improvements by expanding it, the boiler has a leak and is being repaired and it looks as if repainting the outside will start this Spring.

The Grand Knight will be presenting a Certificate of Appreciation to Stan Shea for his help in supplying the Squires Christmas Trees and giving them a discount.

GK Dave Biron reported he had a good return on the Fraternal Survey and has mailed the Council’s form to Supreme. The Council Retreat was set for February 24 and was to run from 8:00AM-3:00PM with attendance at mass and ending with the Missions Dinner. He briefly mentioned about a new fundraising program chaired by Mark Johnson and Jim Wooster in collecting old cell phones and the 100 Club chaired by Ron Metevier for the Benevolent Fund. The GK informed the Council about the annual Founders Day Trip scheduled for Thursday March 29 and a bus was leaving from Nashua. Also mentioned was the State website will have Convention information and improved member information. http://www.nhknights.org/

Our FS Dave received the new fraternal roster and strongly suggested that those who plan on attending this years Convention need to pay the money up front so that one check can be sent.

Under Committee Reports Mike Annis reported the Senior Appreciation Dinner is February 25th and he is looking for help and that a 1st Degree was to be held on the 25th of February. Mark Johnson talked about the Cell Phone Drive and that the proceeds will go to the retired religious and for the Sisters who were looking for donations for a new elevator. Pedro Santiago commented on the low turnout for the Free Throw Contest due to weather and football and hopes to have a better turnout next year. Ron Metevier went over the 100 Club and that tickets were still available and he is still working on a fundraiser for the Aquino family. Mark Hausmann informed the Council of the Pro Life Seminar in Manchester in April, he will once again chair the Palm Sunday Breakfast, and is looking into the Knights taking over the sales of Carnations on Mothers Day.

Under new business there were several motions made: appropriate $30.00 to continue the Sam’s Club Card (passed), $100.00 for Winter-fest (passed), $200.00 for Spring Fling Social (passed), $100.00 for the Baked Fish Dinner (passed), $200.00 for Senior Appreciation Dinner (passed), and the final motion was to accept the budget (passed).

ON THE HUMOROUS SIDE

YOU KNOW YOU ARE LIVING IN 2007 when...

1. You accidentally enter your password on the microwave.

2. You haven't played solitaire with real cards in years.

3. You have a list of 15 phone numbers to reach your family of 3.

4. You e-mail the person who works at the desk next to you.

5. Your reason for not staying in touch with friends and family is that they don't have e-mail addresses.

6. You pull up in your own driveway and use your cell phone to see if anyone is home to help you carry in the groceries.

7. Every commercial on television has a web site at the bottom of the screen.

8. Leaving the house without your cell phone, which you didn't have the first 20 or 30 (or 60) years of your life, is now a cause for panic and you turn around to go and get it.

10. You get up in the morning and go on line before getting your coffee.

11. You start tilting your head sideways to smile. : )

12. You're reading this and nodding and laughing.

13. Even worse, you know exactly to whom you are going to send this message.

14. You are too busy to notice there was no #9 on this list.

15. You actually scrolled back up to check that there wasn’t #9 on this list

AND NOW YOU ARE LAUGHING at yourself.
