APRIL 2007

 Grand Knight’s Message

Brothers,

Another long, cold winter has finally passed and I welcome you to Spring.(April Fools!) We have now journeyed through Lenten season during which we were treated to three Friday night fish bakes, and in case you missed catching at least one of them, you indeed missed quite a delicious meal. I tip my hat and say thank you to the Ste.Marie family for dedicating their time and culinary skills.

As we turn the calendar to April, we immediately begin Holy Week, a most sacred time of year during which we remember the sacrifice our Savior Jesus Christ made for all of us and his Resurrection we joyously celebrate. I wish all of you and your families a safe, happy and most Holy Easter. May God Bless you all throughout the year.

I wish to mention also that we have served two fantastic Sunday morning breakfasts. The first one was in honor of the Feast of St. Joseph and then two weeks later, another traditional Palm Sunday Breakfast. Thank you to all who helped out, particularly Mike Annis and Mark Hausmann who did  fantastic jobs spearheading these projects, along with all our newest Brother Knights who have immediately become involved in our Council. It truly was great to see them working together in the kitchen and quickly becoming a part of our camaraderie.

I apologize for mistakenly omitting Bob Murphy’s birthday in last month’s newsletter. When you see him, please all wish “Murph” a belated Happy Birthday.

Please note on your calendar that I have moved this month’s business meeting to Sunday, April 15, as Easter falls on the second Sunday this year. Also, just a "heads-up" that I have a planning meeting scheduled for Thursday evening, April 19th .

Also coming up in April, we have a new cell phone recycling program which will be taking place in the Narthex the weekends of April 21/22 and 28/29, chaired by Mark Johnson and Jim Wooster. This will be a fundraiser to support retired religious. Ron Metevier will be selling flags the same two weekends.

Our next First Degree is planned for Sunday, April 22 and we are working on getting a Second Degree scheduled, hopefully with the Plaistow team. We have several candidates ready to go forward. On Saturday April 28, our annual Children’s fishing derby is scheduled. Let’s hope for good weather. Also, that same day, for all who have spare time, please volunteer to help out with our Church's spring clean up day. A lot of helping hands are needed.

Finally, I invite all of you and your families to our annual “Spring Fling’on Monday evening, April 23. We are hoping  to be able to have a cookout in the picnic area. Please let John Ste.Marie, Jim Stratz or Jim Wooster know if you are attending. We need a rough count of how many hamburgers and hot dogs to buy.

Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime.

Vivat Jesus,

Dave Biron

COUNCIL NEWS

The following were read under Bills and Communications: a check returned from a 3rd Degree that was not cashed, Chris Martel is residing in Merrimack with Fr. Agi for a few weeks, thank you notes from Leo Blouin, a parishioner for the Senior Appreciation Dinner and American Cancer Society, a letter from Supreme stating that May 5 is Join Hands Day, a bill of $72.00 (for our P.O. box) and $37.50 (Convention Program Book) was handed over, and last was information on a Resolution to be voted on at Convention.

The DD Ron Metevier informed the Council on: the Council’s 1st Degree Team is now certified, State Convention is May 4-6, a 2nd Degree is to be held in Bedford on March 22 and a 3rd Degree in Northwood on May 20, and ended his report with Program Reports due March 19.

Our Chaplain Fr. Mike congratulated the Council on the good work that has been going on within the church.  He was impressed with our 1st Degree Team and is looking for input for what needs are there for our Parish.  Fr. Mike mentioned that the Parish Cleanup Day is April 28.

The four Winners of the drawing of the 100 Club are: Mark Hausmann, St Joseph Church, Robert Stackpole, and the Stratz Family.

GK Dave Biron congratulated the Degree Team on their recertification and thanked those who helped with winter-fest and the Senior Appreciation Dinner.  Dave had placed the Council’s vote for Gary Walpert for the Granite Award. He stated that The Feast of St. Joseph is March 19 with an evening mass and that a breakfast in his honor will be on March 18 following the 8:00 Mass. He informed the Council that Honor Guards are needed for the Feast of St Joseph, Palm Sunday, and at the Easter Vigil.  The GK mentioned that a wheelchair is in need at the church.  The Council Business Meeting for April will be on the 15 not the 8 as it is Easter Sunday.

The following are reports from several Chairman and Co-Chairs: Senior Appreciation Report was turned in, it cost the Council $170.00 for the fixings as Brother Knights volunteered to cook and donate the turkeys. Winter-fest went well with some new changes scheduled for next year and the Fish Dinners are doing well, but game night did not do too well as several people only attended the dinner. The Spring Fling Social Dinner has been postponed to April 23 due to the busy Lenten schedule, the collecting of Cell Phones will be for two weekends in April and Brothers can also try to set up a collection site at their jobsite to help with the raising of money. 65 pints of blood were collected with 3 doubles for the February blood drive, students from UNH are looking for support in their Pro Life Program and our Pro Life Co-Chair is further investigating the situation. Help is needed for the Palm Sunday Breakfast and to sell Carnations on Mother’s Day,

Under new business several motions were made: motion for $15.00 to help defray the cost for Priest, Nuns, and Seminarians at convention (Passed), motion to appropriate $100.00 fee Palm Sunday Breakfast (Passed), motion to accept the Resolution proposal (Passed with the stipulation that if there is a change from volunteering to per capita we oppose), motion for Dave Biron and Rick Cabral be delegates at the Convention (Passed), motion for Leo Blouin and Mike Annis to be alternates (Passed).
