APRIL 2008

Grand Knight’s Message

Brothers,

During the past month, we have served two breakfasts, one for the Feast of St. Joseph and  the next day for Palm Sunday. We have provided honor guard for both of those Masses, along with the Easter Vigil and Confirmation with the Bishop. We also had five Lenten fish dinners. Jobs well done all, and I thank everyone who helped out. Plus I want to thank Ed Parent, Bob Murphy, and Rick Cabral who put a big chunk of the Christmas decorations away.

I have accomplished a couple of tasks. Our application and check for the new liability insurance policy through the State Council has been mailed. This will prove to be a big savings to us. I submitted the paperwork to Supreme for the approval/appointment of a new Financial Secretary. Council program reports have been mailed to the State Program director for judging

at the State Convention, which is the first weekend in May at the Crown Plaza in Nashua. I have also obtained from the town of Epping the application we now need to submit before we have any raffles. Also our ad and check for the Convention program book has been mailed.

At our May business meeting, we will be holding open nominations for a new slate of Officers for next fraternal year. Anyone who has obtained Third Degree and is interested in a position should let me or any current Officer know of your intentions. Voting will be in June. The May meeting will be held in the Day Chapel as our Mothers’ Day pancake breakfast will be utilizing the hall. I also hope to have a budget for the new fraternal year ready for presenting next month for the councils approval.

Congratulations and welcome to our Council Gerry Gagnon who witnessed our First Degree on Sunday evening, March 30th, in the Church hall and thus became our newest Brother.

I want to also congratulate Rick Cabral who played the Warden at this Degree for the first time and did a great job. We now have a full back up First Degree team in place.

Coming up, Saturday morning, April 19 the annual spring clean up is scheduled at St.Joseph’s. I ask that all who can contribute a few hours to please come and help out. There is much work to be done after a tough winter and the more hands will make it easier to accomplish.

We are going back to having a spring Tootsie Roll Drive this year. It is scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday April 25 and 26. I am looking for two co-chairs this year to learn the program by tagging with John Ste Marie. Anyone interested please let me know, hopefully some of our newer Knights? The second drive will be in October as usual.

We do have some play time scheduled as well. Our annual “Spring Fling” will be on Tuesday evening April 29th at 6:00PM in the hall. Hamburgers and Hot Dogs, as is tradition, and anyone wishing to contribute a dessert is welcomed to do so. Gather up your families and let us know so that we can come up with an approximate head count, to properly prepare.

In May, plan for Mothers’ Day breakfast, the Fishing Derby on May 17 and Camp Fatima.

Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime.

Vivat Jesus,

Dave Biron

The Chief Counselor Rick Cabral reported the dinner on March 8 was a big success as roughly 100 Parishioners enjoyed large servings of corned beef & cabbage. The menu for the next dinner on April 12 is roast pork. The boys participated in the Easter Vigil by lighting the way with their flashlights for the procession outside to the "bonfire". There was a Sunday afternoon of sledding at Harvey's Hill in Epping. A night of pizza & bowling is scheduled for Saturday evening March 29th and the plans are still in the works for visiting the Boys' Home in Allenstown, likely sometime in April.

                                                            DISTRICT DEPUTY REPORT

The District Deputy reported that at Regional meeting held in Salem it was brought up that getting project reports in is important and they are due March 15th. A committee will review them, pick who is doing great projects and report on them at the State Convention. An ‘Outstanding Ladies Award’ will be given at the State Convention this year. Even though State Officers are elected at the State Convention being held May 2nd to 4th, it is a Council Family event. A Third Degree is scheduled on March 30th in Franklin.. Bob Jones, PGK of the Exeter Council, is now Team Captain for the Second Degree team in our district. The Icon will be at St. Joseph Parish on June 24th.

ON THE HUMOROUS SIDE

In Florida, an atheist became incensed over the preparation of Easter and Passover holidays. He decided to contact his lawyer about the discrimination inflicted on atheists by the constant celebrations afforded to Christians and Jews with all their holidays while atheists had no holiday to celebrate. The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the long passionate presentation by the lawyer, the Judge banged his gavel and declared "Case dismissed!" The lawyer immediately stood and objected to the ruling and said "Your Honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have Christmas, Easter and many other observations. Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and Hanukkah...yet my client and all other atheists have no such holiday!"

The judge leaned forward in his chair and simply said, "Obviously your client is too confused to even know about, much less celebrate his own atheists' holiday!" The lawyer pompously said,” Your Honor, we are unaware of any such holiday for atheists. Just when might that holiday be your Honor?"

The judge said, "Well it comes every year on exactly the same date---April 1st! Since our calendar sets April 1st as 'April Fools Day", consider that Psalm 14:1 states, ' The fool says in his heart there is no God.' Thus, in my opinion, if your client says there is no God, then by scripture, he is a fool and April 1st is his holiday! Now have a good day, and get out of my courtroom!"

             ON THE SERIOUS SIDE

                       ***********************************************************************

A new SECOND DEGREE TEAM is being formed in our District 8 which includes Epping, Exeter, Hampton, Rochester and Dover councils. Our District Deputy Ron Metevier is busy planning and coordinating the creation of this team. He is looking for volunteers who are interested in joining and playing a part. Please give this some serious thought. Having a second degree team in our own district would be very big advantage for us advancing our new candidates on their journey to Knighthood. Contact Ron Metevier or myself for more information.
