APRIL 2010

Grand Knight's Message

Brothers:

Spring is finally here and soon it will be Easter. I hope that in preparing for your Easter celebrations, you and your families took time to prepare your souls for the coming of our Savior Jesus Christ and the Graces He has to offer those who do. I would like to wish all of my brother Knights and their families a Happy and Holy Easter!!

We have a few projects in April, so mark your calendars and please try to help with these projects. April 24th, Church clean up 8am-12pm; also April 24th K of C fishing Derby 8am-11am. April 27th Spring Social 6:00pm. April 30th, The Knights of Columbus State Convention. The deadline for tickets to the Banquet at the State Convention is soon approaching (April 16th) if you plan on going, you can call me at 679-1184. The cost of the tickets is $43.00 per person. This year at the State Convention in honor of “The Year Of The Priest” we will be honoring Fr. Aggie who has been a member of Council #6850 for many years. It would be nice if we could have a good number of us attend this celebration.

Two trees fell at the St. Joseph cemetery, we will be removing them as soon as the ground dries. Let me know if you will be able to help with this clean up.

Thank you all for your continuous support.

Again I wish all a Happy and Holy Easter!

Vivat Jesus,

Rick Cabral

Rick Cabral reported that eight Knights took their Third degree recently. Dave Biron spoke about a recent ruling of the Federal Appeals court on March 11th upholding the words ‘One nation under God’ in the pledge of allegiance. Rick Cabral thanked all who helped with the Squires dinner which sold out. Over 90 parishioners attended plus the Squires and Genesis members who helped serve. There are at least four Squires turning 18 this year who want to join our Council. Mike Annis thanked those who turned out for the admissions committee meeting at which two candidates were recommended for membership. This recommendation was accepted by our Council at our meeting. The next admissions' meeting is March 18th and on April 8th there will be a First degree. Rick Cabral thanked the eight members and eight candidates who attended the Third degree. The deadlines for Convention tickets and rooms are coming up. Banquet tickets are $43 each, contact Rick at 679-1184 by April 20th if you want to attend the banquet as we are trying to get enough members for two tables, which is 20 members total. Father Aggie is the Honoree that night. Founders Day is March 29th.There are a St. Joseph's Day breakfast, Palm Sunday pancake breakfast and Live Stations of the Cross scheduled this month. Church cleanup is April 24th from 8 AM to Noon. Rick mentioned that people are approaching him mentioning they notice how much the Knights do for the Church and surrounding communities.  John Nasser reported all bills are paid and he just needed a total for the cost of the Third degree. The Trustees and the Chancellor had nothing to report at this time. Ron Metevier thanked all for the help at the successful blood drive, the goal was 70 pints and 75 were donated. 14 Knights gave blood. For the next blood drive the Red Cross will be making appointments to cut down waiting time. The Live Stations of the Cross is March 26th at 6 PM with soup afterwards. The Fourth degree will be holding a ladies night and 10th anniversary celebration June 6th. Third-degree members and their wives are welcome. It will be at the 1686 House in Kingston and the cost is $25 per person, please reserve at least two weeks in advance. Rick Cabral reported Camp Fatima cleanup is scheduled for the weekends of May 15th and May 22nd. Mike Annis thanked all who helped at the Senior appreciation dinner where over 60 seniors were served by the more than 20 people who helped that day. Committed Funds are $3041.05 This leaves our Council a Net of ($665.95), which is why we need to keep an eye on how we spend our money.
