Grand Knight’s Message...

Brothers,

May is now upon us with a third of the year gone by.  The Council has a few events taking place this month. Please keep your calendars handy and lend a hand wherever you can.

In April, the Council put on a breakfast for this year Confirmation Class.  Thanks to the Brothers that helped with the breakfast.  There was a good showing of parishioners and Brother Knights for the Living Rosary. There was also a good attendance of people for the International Day of the Unborn Child Mass.  The last event for April was the Tootsie Roll Drive. Another successful weekend with about $ 2,300.00 raised.  Thank you to all Brothers and their families that participated.

May 7 is our “Lets Go Fishing “derby in Epping at the Conservation Pond starting at 8:00 AM.  Mike Annis and Tim Acerno are chairing this event. This is a great event for the family to get out and have a good time.

The Mother’s Day Breakfast is on May 8 following the 8:00 AM Mass. Jim Stratz and John Ste Marie are chairing this event.  In addition, on that same day, we have our Business Meeting.  Because of Mother’s Day this meeting WILL BE SHORT. The awards will be handed out and then right to business. The nominations for Officers need to take place so that the nominees can be listed in the next Knightly News. Then elections will take place as usual in June.

May 13-15 is Convention weekend held in Nashua at the Sheraton Terra Hotel. This is the year for a new slate of State Officers. I will give you an update at the next business meeting in June.

It is that time of year again to head north to Camp Fatima. The date set for the cleanup in May 21. This is a great event for Brother Knights and their family to spend a day getting the camp ready for summer. The state puts on a luncheon for us and the camaraderie that takes place is great. Please contact Mike Annis 895-4713 if you plan to attend this year. He needs to get a headcount of people going. May 22nd is the cemetery cleanup, contact Leo Blouin 679-1633 or Dan Bennis 679-1453 if you can help. [see details below]

The Crowning of Mary is on Tuesday May 24.  Please check your bulletin for the time.

For those interested in continuing their journey to Knighthood, a 3rd Degree is scheduled for May 22 in Manchester. Any candidate and spectator that are interested please contact me at 895-0993.

On Memorial Day, a Mass will be held at the cemetery (weather permitting) at 9:00AM.  It will be at the church if there is rain.

Let us all pray the Rosary as often as we can.  The Power of Mary’s help cannot be denied.  Please pray for our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, World Peace, and all our military personnel around the world, our Parish Priest and Chaplain Fr. Mike Taylor, all our priests and all our Brother Knights.

A LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR

Dress Up

A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her Dad donning his tuxedo, she warned ," Daddy, you shouldn't wear that suit."

"And why not, darling?" "You know that it always gives you a headache the next morning."

                                                                     ON THE SERIOUS SIDE

This story is of something that was alleged to have happened just a few years ago at USC

There was a professor of philosophy who was a deeply committed atheist.  His primary goal for one required class was to spend the entire semester attempting to prove that God couldn’t exist.
His students were always afraid to argue with him because of his impeccable logic.
For twenty years, he had taught this class and no one ever had the courage to go against him. Sure, some had argued in class at times, but no one had ever really gone against him because of his reputation. At the end of every semester on the last day, he would say to his class of 300 students, "If there is anyone here who still believes in  Jesus, stand up!" In twenty years, no one had ever stood up. They knew what he was going to do next. He would say, "Because anyone who believes in God is a fool. If God existed, he could stop this piece of chalk from hitting the ground and breaking. Such a simple task to prove that He is God, and yet He can't do it." And every year, he would drop the chalk onto the tile floor of the classroom and it would shatter into a hundred pieces.

All of the students would do nothing but stop and stare. Most of the students thought that God couldn't exist.

Certainly, a number of Christians had slipped through, but for 20 years, they had been too afraid to stand up.

Well, a few years ago there was a freshman who happened to enroll. He was a Christian, and had heard the stories about his professor. He was required to take the class for his major, and he was afraid. But for three months that semester, he prayed every morning that he would have the courage to stand up no matter what the professor said, or what the class thought. Nothing they said could ever shatter his faith...he hoped.

Finally, the day came. The professor said, "If there is anyone here who still believes in God, stand up!" The professor and the class of 300 people looked at him, shocked, as he stood up at the back of the classroom.

The professor shouted, "You FOOL!!! If God existed, he would keep this piece of chalk from breaking when it hit the ground!"  He proceeded to drop the chalk, but as he did, it slipped out of his fingers, off his shirt cuff, onto the pleat of his pants, down his leg, and off his shoe.

As it hit the ground, it simply rolled away unbroken. The professor's jaw dropped as he stared at the chalk. He looked up at the young man, and then ran out of the lecture hall.

The young man, who had stood, proceeded to walk to the front of the room and shared his faith in Jesus for the next half hour. 300 students stayed and listened as he told of God's love for them and of His power through Jesus.
