JUNE 2006

 Grand Knight’s Message

Brothers,

The end of a fraternal year is now upon us for the Squires, Council, and Assembly.  It is that time of year again were nominations for new Officers are opened for 2006-2007.  Our Council opened the floor for nominations at the last Business Meeting.  You will find the list of nominees listed in the Council section.  These names were presented to the Council by the Nomination Committee.  This does not mean that nobody else can run for any of these Offices. The names listed are only a recommendation by the committee for the slate of new Officers.  A Brother Knight needs to have completed his 3rd Degree in order to hold an office.  Elections will take place at the next Business Meeting.

Here is a quick rundown of activities and events that took place in May.  The first weekend our Delegates and Alternates attended the Convention at the Crown Plaza in Nashua.  Our Council received a few awards.  These awards will be presented to the Council at the Business Meeting.  The following Sunday the Council put on a Mother’s Day Breakfast.  The next Saturday several Brother Knights, Squires, and others had planned to attend the work Day at Camp Fatima.  This was  postpone to the following weekend as the water level was very high and there were concerns about being able to travel the roads to get to Fatima.  The Adopt-a-Highway cleanup was canceled for Sunday May 21.  A new date for the highway cleanup will be given as soon as possible.

Ron Metevier 895-2889 is has stepped forward once again in taking orders for Council jackets.  I know there are a few Brothers interested in purchasing one.  The wives can order jackets as well.  Contact Ron for more information.

Our Council is looking for new blood to help put together the 2006-2007 Council Scrapbook and future scrapbooks as well.  Nancy Metevier after many years of dedication to this project, along with Judy Annis, is stepping down from the position.  Nancy will still take pictures and gather other material for the scrapbook.  Please contact me 895-0993 if any Brothers and/or wives are interested with this project.

The “Lets Go Fishing” Derby once again was a success. There were over 50 kids participating in this event.  What a beautiful day they had for this event.  Thanks to Tim Acerno and Mike Annis for Co-Chairing this youth program.

Jim Stratz 895-5203 has 14 tickets left for the Fishercats Baseball game on June 22.   He is still looking for volunteers to assist in the selling of programs at each game.  A number of five people are needed for each game with a total of 15 for the three days.   Please contact Jim as soon as possible.

On June 11 Father Mike is looking for help from the Council with the Teaching and Healing service with Eileen George.  There is help needed for traffic control and other duties.  Please contact me 895-0993 or Dave Biron 642-8970 if you are able to help with this event.

The next major event for the Council is the Parish Picnic which is scheduled for June 25 at.   As usual we will provide the hamburgers, hot dogs and cheese along with the cooking crew at the Pits.  Those that are able to help out with this event please contact me 895-0993.

Please keep in mind that our Council does not slow down as Summer approaches.  Many activities and events will be taking place in July.  We have the 4th of July Parade in putting a float together, finishing up the new trailer for the Raymond Town Fair, the Motorcycle Blessing, the Fishercats games in selling programs, and the Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup.  Please look at your calendar for July and help with any of the activities that are scheduled.

As you may all know this will be my last Grand Knights Message.  It is hard to believe that two years has gone by.  I have enjoyed being your Grand Knight throughout my time of reign.  It has been a very bumpy road throughout this last year as I am working more than I wanted to with the Boy Scouts in Fremont trying to provide a program for the boys.  I knew filling the shoes of our Past Grand Knight Jimmy Stratz Jr. was not going to be easy for me.  Thank you to all my Officers and Trustees that served with me the past two years.  I am proud to be a member of this Council that dose so much for our Church, Community, Council, Youth, and Family.

Before closing, I thank all my children, Ambre’, Stephen, and Renee for their love and support they have given me the past two years.  And finally, a sincere and heartfelt thank you from my heart to my loving wife, Jan, who has stood beside me through thick and thin in being there for me, supporting me and loving me as we journeyed the bumpy road of life together.

Let us all pray the Rosary as often as we can. The Power of Mary’s help cannot be denied. Please pray for our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, World Peace, and all our military personnel around the world, our Parish Priest and Chaplain Fr. Mike Taylor, all our priests and all our Brother Knights.

HUMOROUS TIMES

A man and his ever-nagging wife went on vacation to Jerusalem.  While they were there, the wife passed away. The undertaker told the husband, "You can have her shipped home for $5,000; or you can bury her here, in the Holy Land, for $150.00."

The man thought about it and told him he would just have her shipped home.

The undertaker asked, "Why would you spend $5,000 to ship your wife home, when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would spend only $150.00?"

The man replied, "Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three days later he rose from the dead. I just can't take that chance."
