JULY 2006

 Grand Knight’s Message

 Brothers,

This is certainly an exciting time, not only for our Council, as we begin a new fraternal year, but also for me personally.

For those of you who may not know who I am, I reside in Brentwood with my wife, Jackie, our eighteen year old son, Nathan and fourteen year daughter Elizabeth. Nathan has been a Squire for about six years and Elizabeth is an altar server and is active in the Genesis group. We have been part of St. Joseph’s Parish for more than twelve years now. I have been an usher for several years at the 10:30 A.M. Mass and for the past one and a half years I have been serving Father Mike as the Sunday morning Sacristan for both 8:00AM and 10:30 Masses. Additionally, both my wife and I are Eucharistic Ministers and I also enjoy spending time on Friday evenings in Eucharistic Adoration.

I took my First Degree in January, Second in February, and Third Degree in March 2002. I have also been a Fourth Degree member since June 2003. I have served our Council as Family Director the past three years and as Deputy Grand Knight for the last two.

My Family and I are big fans of the Boston Red Sox and catch as many games on the tube as possible.

Having been newly elected as Grand Knight for Council 6850,  I now begin serving my term offering my thanks for your confidence in me, that I would be worthy of handling a position of tremendous responsibilities. I pray for God’s Blessing and guidance that I may be successful as your leader, helping our Council carry on Father McGivney’s vision and accomplishing many good works for our Council and Community. As a team, there are no limits as to what we can do.

We are truly blessed here at St. Joseph’s Church, that we are all part of such a loving and caring parish. Our Chaplain, Father Mike is energetic, hard working and a very spiritual leader of our parish. He sets the wheels in motion creating the atmosphere for all the dedicated helping hands who volunteer many hours to help instill in our Church the magic we all know and enjoy. Many a visitor has remarked to me that you can feel that “something special” about St. Joseph’s.

Thank God for all the wonderful, friendly and warm people that make up our parish.

As Knights, we should all volunteer as often as possible to help keep this spirit growing ever stronger and keep alive what Father McGivney taught us many years ago.

I wish to extend my hand to each and every Brother Knight and welcome you to come and chat, to let me know what is on your mind, and what have been your experiences with our Council. We now have close to 140 members and I am certain there are many good ideas as to how we can improve on what we do and how we go about our business.

We have a Spaghetti social in the planning stages with Tona McCarthy chairing the event for sometime in August. We will announce the date in our newsletter and make a call around as soon as we have a firm date. It would be great to see as many Knights as possible come together and enjoy the evening swapping old stories and hopefully some fresh new ideas.

I wish you all a safe and joyous month of July.  Please remember that we have the Fourth of July Parade, Raymond Town Fair, our annual Motorcycle Blessing and the Fisher Cats Baseball games coming up.  Please check the list of activities for dates.

Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime.

Vivat Jesus,

Dave Biron

SQUIRES NEWS

The Squires had a Roast Pork Dinner in June. They had a very good turnout. Their next dinner will be in August. For July the boys will be at the Raymond Town Fair in their new trailer selling burgers. Future activities are being planned. One is another rock climbing expedition and the other is a fundraiser for purchasing new jackets for those interested in getting one.

At the June meeting the Squires held their elections of new Officers.  The results for the next fraternal year are as follows:

Chief Squire:    Shawn Colford           Deputy Chief:   David Nasser

Notary:             Jimmy Stratz              Bursar:             Stephen Ste. Marie

COUNCIL NEWS

At the beginning of the June Business Meeting three awards were brought forth to the Council. The first award (a plaque) is for participating in the “Keep Christ in Christmas” Program, the second (another plaque) is the “Proud Council Award” and the last one is for winning 1st Place for the Council Scrap Book for “Most Popular”. This award is to be sent to us by when the engraving is finished. The new State Officers were announced. State Deputy is Tom Ingham; State Secretary is Greg Taillon; State Treasurer is Ed McCann; State Advocate is Jordan Ulery; and State Warden is Joel Plante.

Upcoming events were discussed for June and July.  The events for June were the Trumpet Mass which was to be held at Veterans Park in Manchester and the Parish Picnic. For July the events are Fourth of July Parade, the Raymond Town Fair, Motorcycle Blessing, and the Fisher Cats Game. Mike Annis was looking for help from Brother Knights to help get the trailer ready for the town fair. Jim Stratz who is chairing the Fisher Cats Game needs Brother Knights to sell programs for the three games and still has 14 tickets left for Saturday’s game. This fundraiser is for the General Fund not the Kidney Fund.

Several dinners are being planned for the near future. One is for the general fund, another to help a family in Raymond and a dinner to raise money to rebuild a new Church in Africa. The latter dinner is a State event with other councils participating for this cause. The cost for a new church is $8,000.00. The State is looking for at least 40 Councils out of 76 to donate at least $200.00.

The next Quarterly Meeting is July 16 and will be held in Concord.

In October of this year, Council #6850 will be having its 35th Anniversary. We will be planning a big celebration.  More information will be coming in future Knightly News.

John Ste. Marie has stepped forward to Chair the Tootsie Roll Drive and the Annual State Ball Raffle Tickets. The 1st drive is to be scheduled for August. More information will be in the next newsletter and Business Meeting

Mike Kappler has stepped forward in taking on the “Keep Christ in Christmas” Program. He would like to get an early start on selling Christmas Cards this year. He is going to be sending out a newsletter in the near future.

Elections were held for new Officers for the 2006-2007 Fraternal year.  The results are:

 The Humorous Side:

To: All Employees
From: Director, Administrative Services
Subject: Excessive Absences

Due to the excessive number of absences from the office, the following rules and procedures will be put into effect as of this date:

SICKNESS: No excuse. We will no longer accept your doctor's statement as proof, as we believe that if you are able to go to the doctor YOU are able to come to work.

DEATH: (Other than your own) This is no excuse. There is nothing you can do for them, and we are sure that someone else with lesser position can attend to the arrangements. However, if the funeral can be held in the late afternoon, we will be glad to let you off one hour early, provided that your share of the work is ahead enough to keep the job going in your absence.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE: (Surgery) We are no longer allowing this practice. We wish to discourage any thoughts that you need an operation, as we believe as long as you are an employee here, you will need all of whatever you have and you should not consider having anything removed. We hired you as you are and to have anything removed would certainly make you less than we bargained for.

DEATH: (Your own) This will be accepted as an excuse but we would like a two week notice, as we feel it is your duty to train your successor.

ALSO: Entirely too much time is being spent in the restroom. In the future, we will follow the practice of going in alphabetical order. For instance, those whose names begin with "A" will go from 8 to 8:15, "B" will go from 8:15 to 8:30, and so on. If you are unable to go at your appointed time, it will be necessary to wait until the next day when your turn comes again.

Signed: The Management
