JULY 2007

Grand Knight’s Message

Brothers,

As we close out this fraternal year and prepare to start another one, I look back at my first year as your Grand Knight and, while it has been a learning curve for me, we have had our usual ambitious year continuing our good works. I speak proudly of our council that comes together, prays together and, as a team accomplishes whatever we set out to do. I also want to say thank you to my Officers and all who helped me so much throughout the year.

One of the many accomplishments this year, was the re-certification of our First Degree team which brought eight new brother Knights into our council, and thus helped us earn recognition as Star Council. I welcome our two new Brothers, Jeff Lube and Jim Johnson who took their First Degree on Sunday, June 10.

Two nights later, Tuesday evening June 12th, a big gathering of our Brothers and their families celebrated our council's 30th anniversary at our Spring Social with deliciously grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. It was so very inspiring to see all the scrapbooks from over the years laying out on the tables for us to stroll down memory lane. Ron Metivier forwarded the check from the car accident fundraiser to the Aquino family. We capped the night by recognizing Andrew Vallone for 50 years in the Knights of Columbus and proudly presented him with a cake, certificate and gift. I salute Mr. Vallone and Council 6850.

We were certainly blessed with beautiful weather this past Sunday for our annual Parish picnic for which we provided the hamburgers and hot dogs. Thank you very much to all who cooked and helped out It was a fun time!. Thank you to Carol Ives who baked the cake and to my wife who helped me pick out the gift we presented to Father Mike in celebration of his tenth anniversary of his Ordination and fifth as our Pastor and Council Chaplain. Congratulations Father Mike, and remember we have the contract for your next five years ready  for you to sign.

As summer is now upon us, I pray we all enjoy safe, healthy and well earned vacation time. Let the good times roll, but let us also not forget those who are less fortunate than we are, and always be at the ready to support one another.

Looking forward, we have quite a few activities coming up including the 4th of July parade, Raymond Town Fair, Motorcycle Blessing, Fisher Cats baseball, Air Show and chicken barbecue. I call on my Brother Knights to please plan ahead to come out and support these very worthwhile programs. In particular, the Air Show in August is two days and many helping hands are going to be needed. We have the opportunity to bring in a lot of revenue that weekend to help support our many charitable works. Have a Happy & Safe Fourth of July!!

Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime.

Vivat Jesus'

Dave Biron

Also that same weekend, six or seven of the boys will be attending Steubenville weekend retreat. We wish them terrific weather and a very rewarding and spiritual experience.

Thank you to all the Squires who stepped right up and helped at our Church picnic. We couldn't have done it with out them.

Also, a motion was passed to appropriate $1,000.00 for the registration fee for the N.H. Brain Injury Air Show to be held August 18 & 19 at Pease International Tradeport, where we will be selling our steak subs. Later that evening, a First Degree was held at St.Joseph's Church Hall for two candidates from our council and two from Northwood.

The Grand Knight read a letter of thanks from Mark Vallone, Principal of Epping Elementary and then on Monday, June 11, our G.K. presented a check to Raymond Elementary School special needs class for their half of the proceeds from the Tootsie Roll Drive, which closes last year's drive.

A thank you card was sent from Council 6850 to Paul McManus for letting us borrow the living Rosary for the Crowning of Mary.

On Tuesday evening, June 12 our Spring Social / 30th anniversary celebration took place. A large turnout enjoyed the evening, each others' company and toasted Andrew Vallone on his 50th anniversary of his entering the Knights of Columbus.

A big crowd enjoyed a beautiful summer's afternoon at St. Joseph's annual picnic on Sunday afternoon June 24th. There were lots of hamburgers, cheeseburgers and hot dogs. Council 6850 surprised Father Mike with a special home-baked cake and gift as he is celebrating the 10th anniversary of his Ordination and 5th as Pastor of St.Joseph's Parish.

Helping hands and ideas are needed for a float for the Raymond 4th of July parade, and the Raymond Town Fair is coming up the weekend of July 13-15. Please volunteer to help out where ever time allows.

HUMOROUS TIMES

A little boy opened the big family bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible.

He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages.

"Mama, look what I found," the boy called out.

"What have you got there, dear?"

With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear."
