AUGUST 2006
Grand Knight’s Message
Brothers,
It is now August (already!) and it surely has been a hot summer. It is my hope that this newsletter finds all my Brother Knights and families enjoying the summer and all are in good spirits and good health. Please, if any of you know of a Brother or family that is sick or in distress let me or anyone in the Council know about the situation, so that we can help out. This is the foundation that the Knights of Columbus was built on.
Please pray for Norm Elliot and Clarence Desrosiers who are ill.
The new fraternal year has gotten off to a busy start. I would like to take just a moment to salute Mike Annis, his son, Mike, Jr. and all who spent many long hours renovating our new “Sub-Wagon”. Incredibly, the wagon was set up and ready to go at the Raymond Town Fair in July. We are now looking for other places where we can go with the wagon and sell our delicious steak subs and generate some income for the Council. If anyone has any ideas or knows of upcoming events, please share them with us.
The Motorcycle Blessing took place July 16, which was a very steamy hot Sunday. Thank you especially to our Chaplain, Father Mike, for offering the Blessings for each of the roughly 140 participants and also for all who helped out. Setting up, cooking and clean up after requires a lot of hands, and unfortunately, I was unavailable to help out, as I was in Concord with our District Deputy, Ron Metevier and Financial Secretary Dave Hamilton attending the State Quarterly Meeting. I will share information at our upcoming business meeting.
We will be conducting this year’s first Tootsie Roll Drive on Friday and Saturday, August 25 and 26th. I am asking for everyone who can spare some time to help out please contact the Chairman, John Ste. Marie or myself. The more helping hands will allow for better coverage and result in a more productive drive. We have been very successful in the past supporting our Epping/Raymond Special Needs Classrooms and surely want to see that continue. Thank you in advance for your charity.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars and purchase your tickets in advance for our annual Chicken Barbecue Saturday, August 19 after the 4:00PM Mass. Co-Chairs are John Ste. Marie, Mike Annis and Ron Metevier. Pray for good weather! And of course, the Annual Family Camporee is upcoming Labor Day Weekend. Also, the Spaghetti social I mentioned last month has been scheduled for October. Chairing this project is Tona McCarthy. More info to follow later.
And last, but certainly not least, I issue a plea to all within our Council to come and spend sometime in weekly Adoration, especially the 24-hour First Friday of the Month which begins at 7:00AM and continues through Saturday morning. It concludes with the First Saturday Mass at 8:00AM. The amount of time spent can be as little as 15 minutes, but I believe you will find this is a very rewarding experience, and a terrific opportunity to grow spiritually. It is a wonderful way to show our Lord how much we love him and need him in our lives. If you have not previously attended Adoration and are curious what it is about, speak with Father Mike, Linda Rajchel, Terri and Leo Blouin or myself. Also, please, all who can help out we need “catchers” at the healing services which start at 7:00PM.during the First Friday Adoration each month. We especially need extra hands for September as some regulars will be away at the Camporee.
In closing, I say Thank You and keep up the good work!
Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, Seminarian Chris Martel, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime.
Vivat Jesus,
Dave Biron

SQUIRES NEWS
Several Squires marched in the 4th of July parade behind the Assembly Honor Guards. The Squires used there new trailer at the Raymond Town Fair selling burgers this year. They were very successful this year with double the income than in the past. They will be having their dinner on August 12 and will be cooking ham. Once again the Squire’s will be attending the Family Camporee at Fatima. Future activities are being planned. They are still planning a rock climbing expedition and a fundraiser for purchasing new jackets for those interested. A car wash is also in the planning stages
COUNCIL NEWS
The Council received a bill from Annis and Rajchel Insurance to renew our Bond for $100.00. The Council is looking to see if we are covered by Supreme. A donation, $160.00, was given to the Council from a person living in the area through United Way. We received a certificate from the Sate Council for hosting two Blood Drives. The Family Camporee at Fatima is September 1st through the 4th and the State Golf Tournament will be held September 24, at the Stonebridge Country Club. Dave Cruz is looking into a fund raiser to help local flood victims. No 1st Degree in July and August. The Degree Team needs to be recertified by November 2006. July activities were discussed which were the 4th of July Parade, Raymond town Fair, Motorcycle Blessing and the Fisher Cats Games. Some discussion took place on the new sub trailer in how it can be used in other events and how to refund the money for materials that were needed in fixing the trailer. It was brought up by Mike Annis that his son was able to get a lot of material donated or at a reduce cost. At the town fair the Council will be hosting a motorcycle show and will be giving away three trophies. Dave Biron, Dave Hamilton and Ron Metevier were attending the Quarterly Business Meeting in Concord on July 16. Fr. Mike is looking for Council members to help with the Religious Education program as there is a shortage of teachers this year. A Spaghetti Social Dinner is in the planning and the Installation of Officers is August 6 at 1:00PM. No statement was received by Supreme indicating the amount of new members and insurances the Council need in achieving their quota. We have $640 of outstanding dues. The Retention Committee is being formed to look at the situation. The “Lets Go Fishing” Derby was discussed in that money was given back to the Council as Tim Acerno was able to get donations to cover the cost which is about $1,000.00. Joe Lessard cashed in $72 for the Seminarian Fund. Other activities were discussed for August and September and they were the Chicken BBQ, Tootsie Roll Drive, State Ball Raffle Tickets, Blood Drive and a Steak and Lobster Dinner for a fundraiser. Ron Metevier is taking orders for Knights jackets. A motion was made to donate $50.00 to the American Cancer Society and seconded. The motion did not pass as the Council had already given a donation earlier this year. A challenge was made by Supreme for each officer to bring in 2 new members and that Family Week is August 12-20, 2006.
FOURTH DEGREE NEWS
The Flag Retiring Ceremony is still under discussion. One is being planned for August. A few members of Assembly #2644 participated in the 4th of July Parade in Regalia leading the parade along with Father Mike and seminarian Chris Martel. Thank you Sir Knights who were able to attend this event.
Please keep in mind the Seventh Trumpet Mass is held on the third Sunday of each month at 3:00PM.
The Serious Side
A young man had been to
Wednesday night Bible Study. The Pastor had shared about listening to God and
obeying the Lord's voice. The young man couldn't help but wonder, "Does God
still speak to
people?"
After service he went out with some friends for coffee and pie and they
discussed the message. Several different ones talked about how God had led them
in different ways. It was about ten o'clock when the young man started driving
home.
Sitting in his car, he just began to pray, "God...If you still speak to
people speak to me. I will listen. I will do my best to obey." As he drove down
the main street of his town, he had the strangest thought to stop and buy a
gallon of milk. He shook his head and said out loud, "God is that you?" He
didn't get a reply and started on toward home. But again, the thought, buy a
gallon of milk.
The young man thought about Samuel and how he didn't recognize the voice of
God, and how little Samuel ran to Eli. "Okay, God, in case that is you, I will
buy the milk." It didn't seem like too hard a test of obedience. He could always
use the milk. He stopped and purchased the gallon of milk and started off toward
home.
As he passed Seventh Street, he again felt the urge, "Turn Down that
street." This is crazy he thought and drove on past the intersection. Again, he
felt that he should turn down Seventh Street. At the next intersection, he
turned back and headed down Seventh. Half jokingly, he said out loud, "Okay,
God, I will".
He drove several blocks, when suddenly, he felt like he should stop. He pulled
over to the curb and looked around. He was in semi commercial area of town. It
wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst of neighborhoods either. The businesses
were closed and most of the houses looked dark like the people were already in
bed.
Again, he sensed
something, "Go and give the milk to the people in the house across the street."
The young man looked at the house. It was dark and it looked like the people
were either gone or they were already asleep. He started to open the door and
then sat back in the car seat. "Lord, this is insane. Those people are asleep
and if I wake them up, they are going to be mad and I will look stupid." Again,
he felt like he should go and give the milk.
Finally, he opened the door, "Okay God, if this is you, I will go to the door
and I will give them the milk. If you want me to look like a crazy person, okay.
I want to be obedient. I guess that will count for something but if they don't
answer right away, I am out of here."!
He walked across the street and rang the bell. He could hear some noise
inside. A man's voice yelled out, "Who is it? What do you want?" Then the door
opened before the young man could get away. The man was standing there in his
jeans and T-shirt. He looked like he just got out of bed. He had a strange look
on his face and he didn't seem too happy to have some stranger standing on his
doorstep. "What is it?"
The young man thrust out
the gallon of milk, "Here, I brought this to you." The man took the milk and
rushed down a hallway. Then from down the hall came a woman carrying the milk
toward the kitchen the man was following her holding a baby. The baby was
crying. The man had tears streaming down his face.
The man began speaking and half crying, "We were just praying. We had some
big bills this month and we ran out of money. We didn't have any milk for our
baby. I was just praying and asking God to show me how to get some milk." His
wife in the kitchen yelled out, "I ask him to send an Angel with some. Are you
an Angel?" The young man reached into his wallet and pulled out all the money he
had on him and put in the man's hand. He turned and walked back toward his car
and the tears were streaming down his face.
He knew that God still answers prayers.
