AUGUST 2007

Grand Knight’s Message

Brothers,

Summertime and the living is easy---so goes a popular song from a few summers past.  I pray that summer is going well for my Brother Knights and your families.  Hopefully, you have enjoyed some vacation time by now or plan to do so soon.  It is really important for us all to take a break from our busy regular schedule and recharge our batteries.

Congratulations first of all to the team that put together an absolutely fabulous float which took First prize in the Raymond 4th of July Parade.  A great job! And Thank You to Judy (I want to fly like an eagle) Annis for your incredible effort.

A fantastic crew with a spirited work ethic made a big success out of the three day Raymond town fair.  Way to go! I especially want to recognize Peter Hubby and Joe Lessard for helping the Squires with their Hamburger Stand.  Job well done guys!

Our annual Motorcycle Blessing took place on Sunday, July 22.  Incredibly, there were over 200 motorcycles present for Father Mike’s Blessing.  The weather was really hot and the spirits high.  Thank You, Father Mike.

As much as I would have loved to have been there, I was absent from the motorcycle festivities as I was in Littleton attending the first State Quarterly Meeting for the new fraternal year 2007-’08.  It was also the first meeting presided over by our new State Deputy, Greg Taillon. There were new ideas and suggestions presented to help us with recruiting new members and then retaining their interest and enthusiasm afterward by getting them quickly involved in their Council’s activities.  A really big change in the Third Degree format has the state divided into six regions with a degree scheduled for one area on a rotating basis for nine straight months, excluding December.  This will mean more opportunity to take a Third degree and less travel. The schedule can be viewed on the state website, with the location of the degree to be decided.

Also, a Fourth Degree is scheduled for the fall in Littleton, in addition to one in the spring, with the idea of holding at least two Fourth degrees each year.  Speaking of the website, there is also a new quarterly activities newsletter for reading with quite a lot of information.  Check it out.

It was with great pride that I carried home another new plaque honoring our Council for our hard work.  This one is for our yearly Scrapbook which won First place in technical category. Thank you so much to all who contributed and lent a hand in it’s success, especially Judy and Mike Annis who spent countless hours putting it all together in time for the Convention and Nancy Metevier who was always at our many functions armed with her camera.

At this time, I am still waiting for the date from State Council for the installation of our Officers. It will be announced as soon as it’s available.

Two really big events coming up in August are the Air Show at Pease on the 18th/19th and our Tootsie Roll Drive the last weekend of the month.  Please sign up and support these programs.  A lot of helping hands makes the job go a lot easier.  We will not be able to hold our annual Chicken Barbecue in August due to the Air Show.  It has been rescheduled to Sept. 15.

A First Degree will be held on Sunday evening, September 9.

Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime.

Vivat Jesus,

Grand Knight Dave Biron

SQUIRES NEWS

The Squires Circle ran their Hamburger Stand at the Raymond Town Fair in July and a report will be given at the next Council Business Meeting.  They are in hopes of getting a Father-Son basketball game sometimes this summer. Several Squire members participated in the 4th of July Parade.

COUNCIL NEWS

Letters of thanks were sent from the family of Clarence Desrosiers and John Aquino family.

The Admission Committee reported that there are several potential candidates that need to go through admissions.  It is in hopes they will be ready for their degree by September.

The GK thanked those Brothers who participated in June’s programs and all that were able to be part of the 4th of July Parade as we received 1st place for our float.  We received a plaque and $100.00 prize.  A certificate of appreciation was awarded to Jim Stratz Jr. for all the effort he put in for the John Aquino Fund Raiser.  It is in the workings to get back to the Adopt A Highway program in the near future.  The State Council quarterly meeting is to be held on July 22 in Littleton.  Money left over from the Parish Picnic was given to the FS.

The FS has not received an updated report on the status of the Council earning the Star Council Award and the monthly report on our upcoming new members and insurance quota.  He has sent in the form to Supreme of the newly elected officers for the 2007-2008 fraternal year.

Programs scheduled for the month of July are the Raymond Town Fair and Motorcycle Blessing

Upcoming events are the Pease Air Show and Tootsie Roll Drive.  The Annual Chicken BBQ was pushed back into September due to the commitment needed for the air show and the Steak and Lobster Dinner, hopefully, will be in October.   The fall Blood Drive is scheduled for September 4th.

It was brought to the Councils attention by Joe Lessard that the aluminum cans are at $0.60 per pound.  This is a great opportunity to get cans in to help support the Seminarian Fund.

Ron Metevier is once again taking orders for Knights Jackets.  Please all 895-2889 if you are interested in getting one.  Wives are able to order jackets as well.  There is a different emblem on their jackets.

A motion was made to participate in the Night of Giving held at the Mall of NH on November 18, 2007 and passed.

FOURTH DEGREE NEWS

Thanks go out to those Sir Knights who were able to participate as Honor Guards in the 4th of July Parade.  There was a good turn out from the Assembly for this event.  The Assembly was able to have their Flag Retiring Ceremony on Flag Day after the Thursday evening Mass. There were only a few Brothers in attendance along with a couple of spectators witnessing the event as over 300 flags were retired

God Bless,

Dave Hamilton FN

THE SERIOUS SIDE

NEED WASHING??

A little girl had been shopping with her Mom in Target. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful red haired, freckle faced image of innocence. It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the spout. We all stood there under the awning and just inside the door of the Target.

We waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature messed up their hurried day. I am always mesmerized by rainfall. I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so carefree as a child came pouring in as a welcome reprieve from the worries of my day.

The little voice was so sweet as it broke the hypnotic trance we were all caught in "Mom let's run through the rain," she said. "What?" Mom asked.

"Let’s run through the rain!" She repeated.

"No, honey. We'll wait until it slows down a bit," Mom replied.

This young child waited about another minute and repeated: "Mom, let's run through the rain,"

"We'll get soaked if we do," Mom said.

"No, we won't, Mom. That's not what you said this morning," the young girl said as she tugged at her Mom's arm.

This morning? When did I say we could run through the rain and not get wet?

"Don't you remember? When you were talking to Daddy about his cancer, you said, 'If God can get us through this, he can get us through anything!"

The entire crowd stopped dead silent. I swear you couldn't hear anything but the rain. We all stood silently. No one came or left in the next few minutes. Mom paused and thought for a moment about what she would say. Now some would laugh it off and scold her for being silly. Some might even ignore what was said. But this was a moment of affirmation in a young child's life. A time whe innocent trust can be nurtured so that it will bloom into faith.

"Honey, you are absolutely right. Let's run through the rain. If GOD let's us get wet, well maybe we just needed washing," Mom said.

Then off they ran. We all stood watching, smiling and laughing as they darted past the cars and yes, through the puddles. They held their shopping bags over their heads just in case. They got soaked. But they were followed by a few who screamed and laughed like children all the way to their cars.

And yes, I did. I ran. I got wet. I needed washing.

Circumstances or people can take away your material possessions, they can take away your money, and they can take away your health. But no one can ever take away your precious memories...So, don't forget to make time and take the opportunities to make memories everyday.
