OCTOBER  2005

Grand Knight’s Message...

Brothers,

We again are approaching that time of year where things get very busy for Council #6850.  I ask that all Brothers do what they can to assist in any of the events and activities that are to take place the next few months. Please keep your calendar and upcoming bulletins handy so that you can see when you are able to help. If you know there is an activity you want to help with, please call the person chairing that particular event.

September started off with the annual Family Camping Weekend at Camp Fatima. Council members and Squires along with their families, a total about 60 people, attended this wonderful event. Even Father Mike was able to come and stay over two nights in his own cabin set back in the woods. He had a great time as so did the others and is looking forward to next years camping weekend. Ask Father Mike about his special campfire on Sunday evening. It was so great to see families come together for a weekend to have fun, get to know each other a little better and became one big family. There was never a dull moment throughout the weekend. There were activities planned by State Council all weekend. At the campsites people enjoyed playing cards, pitching horseshoes, and sharing some good cooked food. The plans are under way for next years weekend and a Pig Roast is being planned for Sunday. The day after Labor Day, the Council held a Blood Drive in the Parish Hall. This event was a huge success as over 120 gave blood and 104 pints were good. The quota was for 70 pints. I am sure the effects of Hurricane Katrina played a part in the turnout of donors.

The Council’s activities for October start on the 15th and/or 16th. We need to start getting things ready for the Christmas Lights before the ground freezes over. A trench needs to be dug to lay down pipes and wire along the road entrance to the church. Those interested in helping out, please contact Mike Annis 895-4713 or myself 895-0993. The 28th, 29th, and 30th is our last Tootsie Roll Drive of the year.  This will be Leo Blouin’s last time Chairing this event as he will be stepping down after this. We will need someone to take his place as this is a worthwhile charity fundraiser for the local schools that offer programs for the Special Needs Children. Please contact Leo 895-1633 and assist him with this program or contact me 895-0993 for information.  We will also be needing a new Chair or Co-chair to take over the State Ball Raffle Tickets sales for 2006 as our DGK Dave Biron will be taking the reigns next July. On the 23rd we have the last Adopt-a-Highway program. This does not take a long time to do. It can be done in over an hour if there are 8 or more people helping out. Granted this is not a fundraiser but it is a Community Service in showing our people that we care in keeping our planet clean. Please contact Dan Bennis 679-1453 to help out with this project. On October 30th the Children’s Halloween Party is to be held in the Parish Hall. Mike Annis 895-4713 and I 895-0993 are the Co-chairs for this Youth Program. We are looking for several people to help us. Please give a call to see what you can do to help out.

Let us all pray the Rosary as often as we can. The Power of Mary’s help cannot be denied. Please pray for our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, World Peace, and all our military personnel around the world, our Parish Priest and Chaplain Fr. Mike Taylor, all our priests and all our Brother Knights.

SQUIRES NEWS

The Squires enjoyed a beautiful day's weather Saturday, September 24th as they went rock climbing together at Pawtuckaway State Park. Several parents accompanied them and enjoyed the fun. A hike is planned at a future date.

The Squires will be having their monthly dinner Saturday, October 8th after the 4:30 Mass. The delicious menu consists of Roast Beef and all the fixings. A really good turnout is hoped for as the proceeds from this dinner will go towards helping heat homes of those in need this cold winter. An officer's meeting will be held on October 30th in the Parish Hall.  Contact Mike Cabral 679-1184 for further information of these meetings.

COUNCIL NEWS

A blood drive, chaired by Ron Metivier, took place on September 6 in the Church hall and was highly successful as 128 donors gave blood to the Red Cross. Thanks to all who helped out. The September First Degree did not take place as scheduled due to scheduling conflicts, however, one is planned for October. Coming up in October is the State Ball to be held in Milford on the 8th, a First degree October 16 at 7:00P.M; Adopt-A-Highway clean up on the 23rd, and our last Tootsie Roll Drive for this year the last weekend of the month, Oct 28th thru 30th. And last, but not least on Sunday, October 30, from 2 to 4 P.M. the annual Halloween Children’s' Party in the Church Hall. If anyone can donate some time, plenty of help is needed, please contact John Ste.Marie 895-0993 or Mike Annis 895-4713. Please let Leo Blouin 895-1633 know regarding the Tootsie Roll Drive, we really need as many volunteers as we can round up for a really big finish. Happy Halloween!

A LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR

Doctor, Doctor

Two doctors and an HMO manager die and line up together at the Pearly Gates. One doctor steps forward and tells St. Peter, "As a pediatric surgeon, I saved hundreds of children." St. Peter lets him enter. The next doctor says, " As a psychiatrist, I help thousands of people live better lives." St. Peter tells him to go ahead.

The last man says, "I was an HMO manager. I got countless families cost effective health care." St. Peter replies, "You may enter. But," he adds, " you can only stay for three days."                                                                                                  (September 2005 Readers' Digest)

ON THE SERIOUS SIDE

Twenty Dollar Bill

Sometimes we just need to be reminded!

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked. "Who would like this $20 bill?"  Hands started going up.He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this: He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, "Who still wants it?" Still the hands were up in the air. Well, he replied, "What if I do this?" and he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.  He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?"  Still the hands went into the air. My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE.

You are special - Don't EVER forget it.  Count your blessings, not your problems, and remember: amateurs built the ark ... professionals built the Titanic.

If God brings you to it - He will bring you through it.
