OCTOBER 2006

Grand Knight’s Message

Brothers,

In opening, I would like to remind everyone of the  importance of continued prayer, especially in these troubled times, when there is so much hatred and fighting in the world, that even our Pope is coming under attack. We must all pray often to ask God’s help for our world and religious leaders to somehow find a solution, so we may live once again in Peace.

Please pray also for those in our Council and Parish who are sick or in distress, especially Kevin Harrington, Clarence Desrosiers, Norm Elliot and the brother-in-law of Terri and Leo Blouin who took a very serious fall in his home.

Please welcome to our Council our newest member, David MacKinnon who took his First Degree in September along with four other candidates who traveled to Epping with their Grand Knight, Jay Cote from the Northwood Council. Congratulations also to David and his wife Annie on the birth of their baby, also in September. I have been told all are doing fine.

Thanks to all who helped or contributed to the Blood Drive on September 5th.  Our Lobster and Steak dinner was a very big hit, and people are already asking when we are planning the next one. Thanks to all who helped make this such a success. $200.00 from the proceeds are being sent to State Council in support of their Build-a-Church in Ghana program.

Coming up, first of all, on Tuesday evening, October 10th at 6:00P.M.in celebration of Columbus Day, we are holding a Spaghetti Social in the Church hall. This is a no-charge event and will be Tona McCarthy’s first project that he is chairing. I hope to have a good turn-out to support Tona and see if his sauce is as good as he claims. All are welcome to bring a dessert.

Of course, being October already, we are also planning our Kid’s Halloween Party at the end of the month.

And speaking of the end of the month, Council 6850 will be celebrating its’ 30th anniversary!

Father Mike has many projects that he needs our help with inside the Church now that the weather is getting cool and also a fall clean up day at the cemetery, including draining and blowing out the sprinkler water lines. Father is already anxiously looking ahead to our big Christmas decorating efforts outside the Church. And an ice skating rink is being planned for this winter, next to the picnic grove. Lots of fun times ahead, so please volunteer as much a possible.

We have a rough draft of our Council’s budget which we are finalizing and plan to present at November’s business meeting. We are also working on a “Texas Hold’em” poker tournament we would like to sponsor as a fundraiser. I hope to have a question and answer session soon with the people in charge to be sure our Council wants to undertake this opportunity.

That is all for now, take care--hope to see you at the Spaghetti Social.

Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime

Vivat Jesus,

Dave Biron

SQUIRES NEWS

Several Squires attended the Camp Fatima Family Camping weekend.  All had a great time playing soft baseball, eating, participating in other activities and relaxing around the campfire. As usual, they return to church early the 1st Sunday of the month for Mass and then return to Fatima. The Squires held their Italian Dinner in September. As usual the parishioner attendance was great and all had a wonderful time. Eric Ouellette, a Squire, won the 50/50 and gave the money back. He also won the 50/50 at the Steak and Lobster Dinner and gave that back to the Council. The rock climbing expedition and a fundraiser are still in the planning stages. The Ice Cream Social went well with a good turnout from the Squires and the Genesis.

COUNCIL NEWS

The Council held their first 1st Degree in September bringing in one new member into the Council.  Fr. Mike also attended and was impressed with the degree.  Fr. Mike informed the council that some testing is taking place with a new paint procedure.  He will keep us informed on how things are going.  The Degree Team needs to be recertified by November 1st.  The cost of fixing up the new Steak Sub trailer was $1,394.90. There was a motion to pay back the money owed and it was passed. A motion was made to pay the bill for the Keep Christ in Christmas Program and it passed as well.  Grand Knight Dave Biron handed a bill for $86.00. This was for buying stamps for the newsletter and paying the fee for the Council’s post office box.  The Council is supporting Seminarian Chris Martel for another year. The State has challenged all Councils to support the EWTN station. A motion was made to support the EWTN by holding a fundraiser and passed. A letter from Supreme Knight Carl Anderson was read in asking all Councils to participate in World Day of Piece on September 11.

The Council received a plaque for winning 1st place for the Scrap Book.  Both plaque and scrapbook were displayed in the Narthex for the parishioners to see.  The BBQ Dinner raised $441.40 and $2,459.57 was raised from the Tootsie Roll Drive.

Blood Drive on September 5 went well with 72 people showed up to donate ending with 60 pints of blood.  Sandwiches were being served as refreshments at the blood drive and the cost was $68.00.  Ron Metevier will be attending a meeting in Raymond in getting information about the Christmas Parade.   Ron was also taking names on who wanted to purchase a Knights Jacket.  A check for $336.00 was handed over by Jim Stratz from selling programs at the Fisher Cats games.  A motion was made to continue the Fisher Cats Fund Raiser in June 2007 and passed. Joe Lessard cashed in $45.50 for the Seminarian Fund.  Several motions were made and passed including: $100.00 for Walk by the Sea, $50.00 for Breast Cancer Walk, $30.00 for advertising in the State Ball Programs, and $50.00 for State Ball tickets.  District Deputy Ron Metevier informed the Council about a shrine in Massachusetts hosting a day of World Prayer on October 8 and that it will be televised.  He mentioned we need to support this effort in getting Knights and their families to attend this event and inform the parishioner about this event as well.

FOURTH DEGREE NEWS

The Assembly decided to pay half of the full page ad which is to be placed in the State Ball program.         Please keep in mind the Seventh Trumpet Mass is held on the third Sunday of each month at 3:00PM.

God Bless,

Dave Hamilton, F.N

The Humorous Side Continuation

For those in New Hampshire - laugh;
for those who are no longer in NH - reminisce; and for those of you who are just lucky enough to know someone from NH -- maybe this will help you better understand them.

Shoveling the driveway constitutes a great upper body workout.
You know more than one person who does not have cable TV.
Nobody takes their Christmas lights down until Easter because that’s when the snow starts to melt.
You refer to the Patriots as "we".
You go out of state and don't understand what "tax" means on your receipt.
You know where ManchVegas is, and you think it’s a big city.
Motorcycle Weekend is the highlight of your summer.
Your high school has snowmobile parking.
You have hit more than 1 moose or dear in your life probably both.
You thought Grumpy Old Men was a documentary.
You pump your own gas and get confused when traveling out of state and see a Full Service sign at the gas station.

The Serious Side

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday.
The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the "silent  majority".
We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers.

We are not organized, boisterous or over-bearing. We get no liberal media coverage on TV, to reflect our message or our opinions. Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops.

Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday -and continues each and Every Friday !! ,, until the Troops  All come Home, sending a deafening message that..

Every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers.

If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, co-workers, friends, and family. It will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is on their side more than ever, ! certainly more than the media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can we do to make things better for you?" is...We need your support and your prayers.
Let's get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example; and wear something red every Friday.
I sent this out to everyone on my email list. Will you?
WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE.
THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED-WEAR RED!
MOST OF ALL - GOD BLESS AMERICA
