Grand Knight’s Message…

Brothers,

The holiday season is now upon us once again.  I urge each Brother Knight to keep a heads up on the upcoming activities or events. Granted it is a busy time, but we need many helping hands to make this holiday season better than last year.

On October 8th my wife and I attended the State Ball held in Milford. We both had a great time. We handed over $500.00 from the raffle tickets that were sold. We get back half of this which is given to the church for St Joseph Religious Education Programs. Thank you Dave Biron for Chairing this project. Last month we were hoping to make headway in laying down wire and pipes for lighting up the church grounds. Weather was not cooperating with us. We are looking at another alternative. More information will be given at the next business meeting. We are planning to expand what we did last year. Heavy duty cords for outside are needed along with more artificial Christmas trees and lights. Any donation is greatly appreciated. The last Adopt-a-Highway was canceled due to rain. Thank you Dan Bennis for chairing this event. We will be starting up the program again in the spring of 2006. DGK Dave Biron, District Deputy Ron Metevier and myself attended the Quarterly meeting in North Conway. Details about the meeting will be given at the next business meeting. The last Tootsie Roll Drive was held the last weekend in October. The Council still needs new Co-chairs for 2006 Tootsie Roll Drive. This is a good opportunity for new Brother Knights to step forward and become more involved. The Children’s Halloween Party took place on October 30th. A small showing of children this year. All that attended had a great time playing games, doing crafts, coloring. eating munchies, story time and the Haunted House. A big thank you to all Brother Knights and their families for helping out with this activity.

DGK Dave Biron 642-8970 needs a hand with the “Keep Christ in Christmas” Christmas Cards. He is looking for help in selling the Christmas cards after each mass. Help is also needed for picking up food for the Thanksgiving Baskets. Dave Hamilton 895-9667 and Mike Annis 895-4713 again are Co-chairing this project. The delivery day this year is November 21st, 6:30PM at the Parish Hall. Please give either Knight a call to help out with the delivery. The weekend after Thanksgiving is usually the time for setting up the Mangers in Epping and Raymond. Those interested in helping with this please call me at 895-0993.

Just a few things to mention for December. The first thing is the Adult Christmas Party Yankee Swap is scheduled for December 3rd in the Parish Hall after the 4:30 Mass. Mike Annis 895-4713 and John Ste. Marie 895-0993 are Co-chairs for this event. Please give either one a call for information or to inform them you will be attending. The other is the Children’s Christmas Party that is scheduled for December 11th. Mike and I will also be Co-chairing this event.  Please contact us for information or to sign up to help.

Let us all pray the Rosary as often as we can. The Power of Mary’s help cannot be denied. Please pray for our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, World Peace, and all our military personnel around the world, our Parish Priest and Chaplain Fr. Mike Taylor, all our priests and all our Brother Knights.

 Vivat Jesus'

 John P. Ste.Marie

COUNCIL NEWS

The State Ball was held in Milford on October 8th, with our Grand Knight in attendance with his wife, Jan. We have been told a good time was had by all.

Unfortunately, due to all the rain during October, the Adopt-A-Highway clean up on the 23rd had to be postponed.

Our final Tootsie Roll Drive for this year took place the last weekend of the month, Oct 28th thru 30th. We are looking for a new chairman for next year to replace Leo who is stepping down after many years' hard work. Thank you Leo!

Sunday, October 30th, the annual Halloween Children’s Party was held in the Church Hall. A fun filled afternoon complete with pumpkins, games and surprises was enjoyed many youngsters of the Parish. Thanks to all who helped make it possible.

Coming up in November, on the 5th, a Veterans' dinner in the Church hall will take place featuring a delicious roast pork. The distribution of Thanksgiving Baskets is being planned for November 21st, a Monday evening at 6:30PM. Finally, of course, there is always plenty of decorating of the Church grounds for Christmas that needs to happen, so please volunteer whatever time you can to help make this a very joyous holiday season.

FOURTH DEGREE NEWS

A Veterans' Dinner, in honor of all American Veterans, will take place on Saturday evening, November 5th at 5:30P.M. in the Church hall. Cost is $12.00 per couple. A carefully prepared Roast Pork dinner will be served. Help is needed; please call Dave Hamilton or Mike Annis if you are available, or if you plan on attending the dinner.

Thank you to all who participated in the Remembrance Mass on Sunday, October 30th. Next week, on November 6th, which is also Squires' Sunday, we will again provide Honor Guard for the 8:00A.M. Mass to remember our deceased Brother Knights.

Please keep John Gibney, who is in the Rockingham Nursing Home, in your prayers.

            Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

God Bless,

Dave Hamilton,F.N.

A LITTLE BIT OF HUMOR

Since Mother had always loved music, Dad surprised her and bought her a piano for her birthday. Several weeks later, I asked him how she was doing with it. "Oh," he said, "I persuaded her to switch to the clarinet." "How come?" I asked. "Because with the clarinet, she can't sing."

                                                    ON THE SERIOUS SIDE

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70’s!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because

            WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cellphones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chatrooms..........

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

And YOU are one of them CONGRATULATIONS!
