Grand Knight’s Message
Brothers,
On Sunday, October 22, I traveled to Littleton, N.H. along with our Deputy Grand Knight, Rick Cabral and District Deputy Ron Metevier to attend the State Council’s Quarterly Business Meeting. My first thoughts were on how long a ride this would be.
However, the two hour trip (each way!) proved to be a good reminder of the beautiful state in which we live. To get there, you must pass through Franconia Notch which received three inches of snow the day before. The closer we got, the snow capped mountains eventually became snow covered trees and hillsides which really provided some fantastic views. Soon, I was thankful for the opportunity to take this trip and was reminded of how important it is for all of us to take time from our busy schedules and to relax and enjoy God’s beauty all around us.
As for business, we now turn our attention to the holiday season which is fast approaching. We have Thanksgiving Baskets to prepare and deliver with our Columbian Squires. We have many Christmas decorations to unpack and plans to be made to prepare our Church for another festive season. We will have Nativities to deliver and set up in the Epping and Raymond town Commons and there will be a parade to get ready for in Raymond. The Squires will be busy selling Christmas trees once again. So, please, come and volunteer as much as possible, for many helping hands are needed and much fun to be enjoyed; not only in the spirit of the season, but in our Brotherhood as Knights of Columbus.
I want to take a minute to recognize Tona McCarthy, his Mom, and family members who helped him to serve a delicious spaghetti supper for our social on Tuesday evening, October 10th. This was his first project and was a huge success. Thank you Tona, we look forward to the next one.
I also want to say thank you to the crew, which included the Squires, who were involved in the clean up at the rectory, and to all those who braved the elements and volunteered their time to the Tootsie Roll drive. And thanks to John Ste. Marie for a job well done selling State Ball Raffle tickets. I have a check from State Council for $327.00 to present to our Religious Education Program due to his efforts.
I had hoped to present our new budget at the November business meeting, however, it appears this will have to wait another month as busy schedules have hampered efforts to get it completed.
Please keep in your prayers Clarence Desrosiers who had a leg amputated and is now in rehab at CMC hospital, Norm Elliot who I visited recently and is doing well despite a few bruises from falling in his home, and all who are in need of our prayers.
I wish all my Brother Knights and their families a healthy, safe and happy Thanksgiving.
Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime.
Vivat Jesus,
Dave Biron

SQUIRES NEWS
The Squires continue their monthly dinners with Baked Chicken for November 11 at 5:00PM. They had roast pork for October and had a good turnout. A few Squires helped out in removing brush from the Rectory. Brother Knight John Ste. Marie and Ed Parent took down the spruce tree behind the rectory and several small trees. The Squires will be doing their Fall Cleanup at the Rectory sometimes this month. They will be helping once again with delivering Thanksgiving Baskets this year and selling Christmas Trees.
COUNCIL NEWS
Regular business took place at the monthly meeting. Ron Metevier and Leo Blouin along with their wives attended the State Ball held in Milford. A center piece for the table was made by Nancy Metevier and won 2nd place. Money was handed over for the Steak and Lobster Dinner. Enough money was made to send a $200.00 check to the Quarterly Meeting to help support the Build a Church in Ghana Program. Dave Biron. Rick Cabral and Ron Metevier were attending the Quarterly Meeting in Littleton. The Halloween Party was planned for October 29 with $200.00 budgeted for the program. The Tootsie-Roll-Drive was schedule for the 27 and 28 of October. A Budget Committee met and went over the Council’s budget for the 2006-2007. They hope to have it resolved as soon as possible. Ron Metevier reported that Raymond is having a Christmas Parade and that the Council will be participating with a float along with the lighting of the Manger.
FOURTH DEGREE NEWS
Assembly 2644 was planning to attend the special Mass for deceased members of St. Joseph as Honor Guards and other positions where needed. Honor Guards will be needed to help with the Family Mission in November.
I wish all my brother Knights and their families a healthy, safe and happy Thanksgiving!!
God Bless,

The Humorous Side
They forgot to do the dishes (Wednesday, 10-11-2006)
Recently I happened across an episode of a true life criminal mastermind whodunit. This one featured the break-in of a high security bank in California which (judging from the cars and the suits) apparently took place in the early 1970's. A group of professional criminals from Youngstown, Ohio flew to California and ransacked several hundred safe deposit boxes containing millions of dollars in cash, jewelry, and other valuables.
The FBI got on the case and was able to track the gang from Ohio to a condominium located a short distance from the bank where the men stayed during their three-night heist. But that was it. Since the furnishings had been scrubbed clean, including washing the walls and polishing the furniture, there was no physical evidence to place them in the condo. (This was pre-C.S.I. days.) Until, that is, as the FBI agents were preparing to leave one noticed the dishwasher, opened it, and discovered a load of dirty dishes containing, you guessed it, the fingerprints of all the suspects. Bingo!
The dirty dishes were only one in a long line of mistakes that helped the FBI seal their case against the burglars. But isn't it interesting that the first piece of hard evidence came as a direct result of the men forgetting to do the dishes?
The Serious Side
This was given to me by our District Deputy Ron Metevier. It is from Supreme
Knight Carl A. Anderson.

Worthy Brothers and their Families:
From Nov. 28 to Dec. 1, Pope Benedict XVI will travel to Turkey for his first pastoral visit to a primarily Muslim country. While few Catholics will be able to join the Holy Father in Turkey, the Knights of Columbus has initiated a "Spiritual Pilgrimage" which strives to unite Knights, their families and other Catholics in prayerful solidarity with Pope Benedict XVI on the occasion of that important visit.
A special "Spiritual Pilgrimage" prayer has been composed by Supreme Chaplain Bishop William E. Lori, which Knights are encouraged to pray daily, starting on the Sunday before the Pope's trip begins - Nov. 26, the Solemnity of Christ the King - and continuing through the Holy Father's visit until he returns to the Vatican on Dec. 1.
"Spiritual Pilgrimage" Prayer
Heavenly Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name, we humbly ask that you sustain, inspire, and protect your servant, Pope Benedict XVI, as he goes on pilgrimage to Turkey - a land to which St. Paul brought the Gospel of your Son; a land where once the Mother of your Son, the Seat of Wisdom, dwelt; a land where faith in your Son's true divinity was definitively professed. Bless our Holy Father, who comes as a messenger of truth and love to all people of faith and good will dwelling in this land so rich in history. In the power of the Holy Spirit, may this visit of the Holy Father bring about deeper ties of understanding, cooperation, and peace among Roman Catholics, the Orthodox, and those who profess Islam. May the prayers and events of these historic days greatly contribute both to greater accord among those who worship you, the living and true God, and also to peace in our world so often torn apart by war and sectarian violence.
We also ask, Oh Heavenly Father, that you watch over and protect Pope Benedict and entrust him to the loving care of Mary, under the title of Our Lady of Fatima, a title cherished both by Catholics and Muslims. Through her prayers and maternal love, may Pope Benedict be kept safe from all harm as he prays, bears witness to the Gospel, and invites all peoples to a dialogue of faith, reason, and love. We make our prayer through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
