Grand Knight’s Message
Brothers,
On October 22, we held our annual fall social in the Church hall and the decent size group that showed up were treated to a real fine Mexican cuisine prepared by Tona McCarthy and his family. Tona’s chili had some kick to it and everyone had an enjoyable evening. I chose the occasion to present the Star Council Award I received the day before at the State Quarterly meeting and also announced the Knight of the Year Award which was Andrew Vallone and the Family of the Year Award to the family of Brother John Nasser. Thank you once again to Tona and family for a real fine job done.
Hard to believe as it might be, but the Holiday season is fast descending upon us. We need as many helping hands as possible to help with the outdoor decorating at Church. Please let our Chair, Rick Cabral know when you might be available to help out. In particular, we need a lot of help on Saturday, November 10.The more hands the better, we have much work to do in order to be ready for the lighting on Saturday, December 8th.We also have a real lot of fun in the process, and it helps get us in the spirit.
Rick Cabral and his Squires will once again be selling Christmas trees at Church in the lower parking lot. Mike Kappler is again chairing the “Keep Christ in Christmas” card program and will be selling in the Narthex the weekend of November 10 and 11. This is a really important K of C program which promotes the real meaning of Christmas, which is all about our Savior, Jesus Christ. Please support this program, and buy some truly beautiful Christmas cards to send to your family and friends.
At our October business meeting, I presented a suggestion for our annual Christmas Party/ Yankee Swap. The Church hall is reserved for Friday evening, December 21, and I am proposing that we order an Italian buffet for our meal after which we can exchange our gifts. The cost will be kept low and we can relax in our own home without having to rush. We are checking with a local restaurant for the food and will announce the cost as soon as we have the information available. Please let me know if anyone has a preferred idea, or perhaps our next business meeting would be a good place to discuss it.
Please everyone keep in mind that this time of year can be very stressful for some, and if you know of anyone needing some support, that this is what the Knights of Columbus is about taking care of our Brother Knights and their families. Also, Father has talked to us about the high cost of heating our homes this winter. Please, if you know of someone who is in trouble, especially the elderly don’t let them sit in a cold house.
We once again will be distributing food baskets for Thanksgiving on the evening of Nov. 20th
I want to wish all my Brother Knights and their families a safe and healthy Happy Thanksgiving.
Please pray for our Parish, Father Mike, all religious men and women, all our military personnel stationed around the world and for Peace on Earth in our lifetime.
Vivat Jesus,
Grand Knight Dave Biron

Squires helped the Knights clean up the church grounds in October. Also in October,
the Squires raised enough money through fund raisers to give Father Mike $250 for local communities’ fuel assistance. They hope to give Father Mike more money this month for fuel assistance also. Squires will be having a Roast Beef dinner November 13th after Saturday Mass. Squires will be delivering Thanksgiving food baskets for the needy.
COUNCIL NEWS
Installation of Officers September 30th went well. A letter of thanks from Seminarian Chris Martel was read. In the letter Chris thanked all Knights for the financial help and keeping him in our prayers. Help is needed Saturday October 20th for cleaning the church grounds and cemetery.
There is a planning meeting for events on the 3rd Thursday each month, please attend if you are running an event and don’t forget your service report afterward.
A motion was made to donate $125.00 two times during the year to the Rectory to help with the Newsletter costs. Motions were made to appropriate $200.00 for the Halloween Party, and $250.00 to Father Mike in appreciation of his efforts with the Motorcycle Blessing. All motions passed. There is a need for donations for a new lift the Bennis family had to purchase for their new van bought as a result of a recent accident. Total cost of the lift is $6000.00
FOURTH DEGREE NEWS
A 4th Degree exemplification will also take place in the Spring of 2008. Thank you to those who served as Honor Guards for the Remembrance Mass for the deceased parishioners of St Joseph. Additionally, we need Knights in Regalia for November 2 Friday evening All Souls Mass. We will also need help for the Sunday 10:30AM Mass November 18th for our own deceased Brothers who have passed away. If you are able to assist as an Honor Guard, please contact Sir Knight Mike Annis 895-4713 who is our Color Corp Commander.
God Bless

THE SERIOUS SIDE
A Message
by George Carlin:
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter
tempers, wider Free ways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less,
we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more
conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more
knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine,
but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive
too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little,
watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much,
love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life,
not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble
crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not
inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but
not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish
less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold
more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and
less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small
character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two
incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of
quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands,
overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the
stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when
you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be
around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that
little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only
treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of
all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside
of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not
be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious
thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but
by the moments that take our breath away.
